The body of an unidentified man was found in Hilo Bay on Thursday evening.

At 8 p.m. Thursday, officers went to the 100 block of Banyan Drive on a report of a body floating in the bay, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

He was face-down, about 15 feet from shore. Police and firefighters assisted the unresponsive man to shore.

He was taken to the Hilo Medical Center and pronounced dead at 9:02 p.m. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.
